This salt flat is located right off Amboy road near the Amboy crater. As we going down from the Sheep Hole pass, we saw a large white-cover-ground. It's the salt flat. We were going to Amboy from the Spring wildflowers but never expected to see any salt flat here. So this was an "extra" something for our trip. We stopped by this salt flat on our way home and took this photo. The storm was approaching the valley at that time. The sky was dark and it was very windy and cold. Amboy Crater is located on the Eastern region of California and about 150 miles from Los Angeles. It's near the famous Josua Tree Nation Park. Many regions in California have high concentration of salt. After rainy season, salt would be washed out into valleys and once all the water evaporated, salt flat like this would form. They all have interesting polygon shape formation. Some of them are really symmetrical like Badwater in Death Valley with all the hexagon formation like a bee hives. We saw a Chlorine factory near these salt flats. We guess that these salt is used to produce Chlorine.
Superb landscape. Looks like snow but it's salt. Amazing.
